Post and Telecommunication Group (VNPT) has just become the third operator to be licensed to test 5G commercial in Vietnam after Viettel and Mobifone. Accordingly, VNPT is allowed to test commercial 5G with the number of no more than 100 broadcasting stations (BTS) at the 2,600MHz, 3,700-3,800MHz bands.
VNPT said it will cover 5G in some locations in Hanoi, mainly in the pedestrian street area of Hoan Kiem Lake and Hai Ba Trung district. In Ho Chi Minh City, the business will cover 5G in crowded locations such as Nguyen Hue pedestrian street, Notre Dame Cathedral area (District 1) and the center of District 3, District 10.
VNPT said that in order to deploy the 5G commercial trial, VNPT-Net Network Infrastructure Corporation is completing the investment in network equipment, to prepare for installation in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. In Hanoi, the enterprise will install 50 5G BTS, the rest will be installed in Ho Chi Minh City.
The carrier also plans to invest in the core network to ensure support for 5,000 5G subscribers during the pre-commercial trial period in the two cities. At the same time, VNPT cooperates with phone manufacturers to check integration of 5G terminals currently on the market to ensure optimal customer experience on VinaPhone 5G network. Currently, more than 50% of terminal models have been successfully tested.
