By 2020, the export turnover of wood and forest products will reach over 13 billion USD, Vietnam will become the 5th largest exporter of wood and forest products in the world, 2nd in Asia. Forest environmental services have really become an important and sustainable source of finance for the sector, one of the 10 outstanding achievements of the Agriculture and Rural Development sector.

However, the forestry sector is also facing a number of difficulties and challenges such as limited planning and planning management; Land disputes, violations of regulations on forest protection and development are still complicated in some localities; The forest area has increased but the quality of the forest is still limited, although the productivity of planted forests has been improved but still low, mainly small timber, not completely meeting the demand for raw materials for the processing and export industries.

Following the direction of the Government, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has reviewed and evaluated the results of the implementation of the Forestry Development Strategy for the period 2006-2020 and developed the Vietnam Forestry Development Strategy for the period 2021-2030. , with a vision to 2050, has been approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 523 / QD-TTg dated April 1, 2021.

The strategy has set out development objectives, orientations and solutions to: Develop forestry sustainably on the basis of efficient management and use of forest resources; harmonization of economic, social and environmental protection goals; to really turn forestry into a modern, efficient, effective and highly competitive economic – technical branch; chain linkage from forest development, forest protection, forest use to forest product processing and trade to enhance forest value; strictly manage, protect and restore natural forests in association with biodiversity conservation, landscape protection, ecological environment, water source security; improve the quality of planted forests …

This strategy, together with the Law on Forestry and its guiding documents, are important documents creating important legal and policy frameworks for the forestry sector in the coming period.

Deploying the planting of 1 billion trees in the next 5 years, the Vietnam Administration of Forestry said that localities need to review appropriate land use plannings and plans for forest development and tree planting, especially in vulnerable areas. effects of climate change to identify priority tree planting areas; reserve land fund that is large enough, stable, long-term, and for the right purpose for greenery development; To arrange local budgets, call on organizations and enterprises, to mobilize legal capital sources to participate, to join hands to contribute; proactively prepare quality seedlings with plant species and plant standards in accordance with technical standards to implement the project of planting 1 billion effective and quality green trees.
