Before many businesses said that they could find vaccine sources, the Ministry of Health encouraged all localities and businesses with conditions and ability to access vaccine sources to be able to import them. Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam emphasized: “It is necessary to find all solutions to have a vaccine as soon as possible. Any problems must be resolved immediately. Anything that is not clear must be instructed immediately.”
At a meeting on May 31, the Ministry of Health said that according to current regulations, only companies with the function of importing and trading vaccines can import. There are currently 27 units with this function in the whole country. Therefore, units with conditions to access vaccine supply can directly work with the Ministry of Health or with 1 of these 27 units.
The “knot” continued to be removed, by noon on June 2, the Ministry of Health announced that Vietnam had 36 establishments certified to be eligible to import Covid-19 vaccines and provide vaccine preservation services. The ministry emphasized the viewpoint of encouraging, motivating and creating maximum conditions for localities and businesses to participate in the process of searching and importing Covid-19 vaccines.
Currently, the Ministry of Health has successfully negotiated 38.9 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine through COVAX, but the amount of vaccine is not much. The ministry has also registered with COVAX to purchase more vaccines under a cost-sharing mechanism. Previously, Astra Zeneca and Pfizer/BioNTech signed commitments to supply 30 million and 31 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine to Vietnam, respectively.
After a meeting with the Russian Direct Investment Fund on the afternoon of June 2, Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long informed that the Russian side had agreed to supply Vietnam with 20 million doses of vaccine in 2021.
