At the conference, General Director of the General Department of Natural Disaster Prevention and Control Tran Quang Hoai said that although natural disasters in 2021 are dangerous and cause a lot of damage to people and properties, the damage has decreased sharply compared to 2020.

In 2021, the whole country happened 841 natural disasters with 18/22 types; in which 12 storms, tropical depressions in the East Sea, from September to November, the central region was continuously affected by 4 storms No. 5, 6, 7, 8 and 6 large-scale floods. . Statistics show that, in 2021, natural disasters have left 108 people dead, missing, 95 injured; Estimated value of damage is over 5,200 billion VND (in 2020 natural disasters make 357 people dead and missing, economic loss is 39,945 billion VND).

Although proactively deploying response and solutions to prevent and control risks to natural disasters, promote international cooperation, apply science and technology, etc., the General Department of Natural Disaster Prevention and Control also acknowledged the shortcomings. Current limitations and limitations such as: The plan to respond to some types of natural disasters is not close to reality. Some legal documents in the construction process are still confused…

Some tasks such as: Inspecting the prevention of natural disasters; The implementation of Directive 42 of the Secretariat, 3 years of implementation of Resolution 76 of the Government in the locality has not been implemented yet due to the complicated situation of the Covid-19 epidemic, many localities across the country have implemented the extension. social distance, high risk of infection.

In addition, the establishment of the Central Disaster Prevention and Control Fund has been slow and unfinished. Many effective implementation activities are still low because they cannot be directly implemented (online deployment); The compilation of reports is sometimes not timely…

Commenting on 2022, Mr. Hoang Duc Cuong – Deputy Director of the General Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) said that the weather situation in Vietnam will tend to change from cold to hot, from cold to hot. more storms to fewer storms, but storms will be stronger and more extreme. Winter will be colder, rains will come earlier and end earlier.

According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep, natural disasters are becoming more and more extreme and illegal due to the influence of climate change, which has been causing great losses in the world; Many leading countries in terms of economy, science and technology and disaster prevention capacity still suffered heavy losses.

Also stating that 2022 is forecasted to have more unpredictable natural disasters, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep asked the General Department of Natural Disaster Prevention and Control to focus on 3 phases: prevention, response and recovery.

Each stage needs to be more professionalized to become a process of disaster prevention. In addition, from the reality of natural disaster prevention, the General Department needs to actively advise the whole political system to step in. At the same time, it is necessary to focus more on the application of science and technology, digitization and automation in disaster prevention and control.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan said that in 2021, Vietnam will have to cope with 9 storms. Although it did not cause as much damage as in 2020, it may signal a more severe disaster year in 2022.

Therefore, it is necessary to proactively improve the community’s capacity to prevent and respond to natural disasters, with close coordination between forecasting and response agencies… along with support from resources of international partners. , thereby improving disaster prevention – Minister Le Minh Hoan emphasized.
