Discovered “sea monster” with strange shape nearly 5 m long in China

A fisherman in Fujian province in eastern China caught a “sea monster” up to 4.5 meters long and weighing nearly two tons.

According to China Central Television (CCTV), a fisherman in Fujian province in eastern China caught a “sea monster” up to 4.5 meters long and weighing nearly two tons.

The fisherman above is named Cai Chengzh. When asked what he would do with his “booty”, Mr. Chengzh frankly said, “I hope to sell it for around 10,000-20,000 yuan.”

According to marine biologists, the “sea monster” that Chengzh caught could be a whale shark. If properly identified as the whale shark, Chengzh will not be able to sell it because according to Chinese law, the whale shark is on the list of animals in need of protection.

The whale shark is considered to be the most gentle of the shark family. They usually live deep in warm water and eat only plankton.

In February 2012, fishermen at Karachi fishing port, Pakistan also discovered a whale shark that is more than 12 meters long and weighs 6-7 tons.

It was towed into Karachi fishing port after it was found dead in Arab waters 10 days ago.
